Letting Go

For a while my dog, Penny, has had a limp in her front left leg. She showed no signs of pain. Yesterday, while my parents were giving her a bath, she started howling in pain. My dad had to carry her (she is a big dog, a bullmastiff). Later that day, she got up suddenly and howled again. The next day, my parents to her to the vet. As it turns out, she has bone cancer and her shoulder is fractured. We have to put her to sleep and we're leaving to say goodbye now. I have never cared for anyone as much as her. Yes, she is a someone, not a something. I have never felt this sad before my entire life.

I won't ever see her again until she's cremated and we're burying her.

We will be hurting for some time about loosing Penny because she gave us so much unconditional love. She was all anyone could ever hope for in a dog! You are right that we will not see her again as we did. We do have to let go in that way. But she will always be close in our hearts and we will always have stories and photos of her to share and preserve her memory. That memory will always be cherished by those who knew her. Love, Mom

When I was small, my Dog, Ashley the First, drowned. You see, my Uncle had a miniature schnauzer, the same breed as Ashley I, and the dog's name was Nikita. Well Nikita was and is a very lean, sturdy, and light-weight dog. So light in fact that she could stand on top of the pool covers that were on the pool. Well, my dog... tried to stand on the pool covers.... she... sank to the bottom. We looked everywhere for her. Calling her name, and then my Uncle took the pool covers off. And there was the dog I'd know for years. Lifeless and still. I miss Ashley to this day, but now we have Ashley II. We love her too. But I'm ssure one day, when I die. I'll meet up with Ashley.

That's even worse.

It gets worse. Last year, Nikita ran away. They still haven't found her. Even though I kinda blame Nikita for what happened to Ashley, I still grieve for her. (for them)

Before we moved to Georgia, there was Maddie, who was a large, distintive, friendly dog. Then one night, she wasn't in the yard. Everyone looked everywhere for her. But no one could find her. Later that night, the neighbors called to say that they had seen Maddie at the high school football game. She had kept trying to come on to the field. She was found later on one side of the road. A terrible fate for a friendly, fun-loving dog. I will always miss her along with Speedo, who got cancer, Shatzi and Colby, who died a natural death, and King who was also hit by a car. King only had 3 legs. The driver of the car didn't even stop. That makes me so mad.

Shadow, the goose, was in our backyard when some teenagers shot him. Poor Shadow. He was more loyal than anybody I've ever known. Animals are a lot better than humans, in my opinion.
